Betfair is unlike any sportsbook you have used before. In some ways it’s like a video game, you can be the bettor or you can be the bookie. You choose your own adventure if you will. When you choose to be the bookie or “lay” you set the line and what you are willing to lose. If someone takes it, you get to watch the game from the other side of the table. STARTING SIX (betting options): As we mentioned in the intro you can be the bookie and choose what you want to lay or you can shop to see what others are willing to lay. However, this is just about the only real betting option there is. They offer limited totals and futures. That being said this one option is an excellent one especially when you get to the part where you start laying odds during the game. An early one goal lead by the underdog can turn into quite the winning proposition for a player. You do, however, need to get your bet matched so your $1,000,000 2:1 -400 on the Ducks might be a bit out of line.
PENALTY SHOT (bonus): At Betfair your first £25 bet is on the house. This doesn’t sound like much, but when you consider the fact that YOU are the bookie and the site isn’t the one gaining most of the profits from your bet. (The site does take a percentage of the winnings, but it is rather minimal.)
THE SECOND LINE (extras): Poker and Casino games are available on BetFair, but where they really shine is in their Exchange Games. Just like in the sportsbook you can choose to bet or lay in games like Exchange Poker. In Exchange Poker you can bet on up to four hands at a time, betting more on the better hands. Someone with a good understanding of odds can make some good money on these games and they do. According to the site 36-40% of people profit on the Exchange Games. They also offer an Arcade where you can play Monopoly for money, it’s like playing with Jaromir Jagr.
DON CHERRY FACTOR (customer service): All e-mail inquiries are answered within four hours, but most often sooner. They have a help line that is manned 24/7 by an English speaking staff. They also have a Cantonese/Mandarin speaking staff that is available 7 days a week which I’m sure you’ll all be glad to know.
